Ghost tours are a great way for history buffs (or just Halloween enthusiasts) to learn quirky new things about the area. Wisconsin definitely has its share of spooky history! Even if you’re skeptical about ghosts and creepy critters, you’ll still get a juicy slice (heh) of historical events you probably won’t find in a textbook.
If you love Halloween like we do, then step up the fun this scary season with a tour of these ghostly sites! If you find yourself in any of these areas across our great state, dig up (double heh) one of these fun tours!
Northwest
Take the haunted history walk through Bayfield while you learn of Winnie Robinson, who passed unexpectedly in 1929 from pneumonia. However, make sure you don’t wear open toed shoes, she enjoys tickling children’s feet while they sleep!
Northeast
Door County Trolley Ghost Tours
As you climb aboard the “Trolley of the Doomed” you will dive into the eerie past of Door County. Explore the darker side of this spirited peninsula, where you will get to hear spine-tingling stories of sunken ships, haunted lighthouses, and mysterious happenings.
Central
Legends say there are ancient canyons that are buried deep within the rocky banks of the Wisconsin River, where dark things haunt the passageway as shadows pass in the moonlight. Catch a ride on the eerie, after-dark journey up-river by boat, then walk through the shadow-haunted Witches Gulch passage.
Southwest
This historic building has a haunted history going back more than a century in the heart of historic downtown La Crosse. Settle in for a meal and a drink from their extensive list, while hearing the story of the former pool hall owner who died in 1901 and continues to haunt the Brew Pub.
Southeast
This roughly 1.25-mile walking tour will take you off the beaten path for a tour of The Ghost of Yankee Hill. Or simply join the original tour that covers notable locations such as City Hall and the Pfister.
South Central
Take a guided tour through the gorgeous Lincoln-Tallman House that tells the dark stories of the old mansion’s terrifying history. But make sure to stop in for food and drinks at the SpookyEasy, found next to the Carriage House.
We hope that this Halloween season you get out and explore our state and learn what has happened to keep some spirits from leaving their comfort zone! How many haunted tours are you planning to take in this October? Do you dare to leave your comfort zone? 👻
