So why are the national brands having issues keeping stock up?
Supplies are slower to arrive, and that’s if wholesalers can even get them. The prices of things like glass bottles, caps, and even paper and adhesives used to print labels have started going up as demand increases. Which leaves drinkers of imported varieties with empty shopping carts and half-filled glasses...sad, glum looking half-filled glasses….
Supply chain issues involve a lot of different, interconnected pieces. We’re getting a good idea just how interconnected a lot of those pieces really can be! Most of the time, businesses can anticipate how supply and demand will change as they plan for the future. There’s always been a sort of ebb and flow to the alcohol industry. Business booms during the holiday season when people are out celebrating. Then it slows down for a bit until summer comes in like a drunken lion!

These shifts in supply and demand are predictable. Or they used to be anyway! But everything we in the industry used to know about seasonality went out the window when everyone, across the planet, suddenly found themselves locked inside with nothing but a Netflix subscription and a bottle to keep them company.
National brands have scaled back production, even going so far as to cut some of their products in order to focus on flagship brands. Some states have discussed rationing alcohol. THE HORROR!!!! Imported liquor, always overrated, is now overrated AND expensive!

Our supplies don’t travel as far or change hands as often. Our distiller & warehouse are right here in the Stevens Point / Plover area, so if we need to get a case, it’s just a drive across town. Our 10-mile “supply chain” was handy before, and it’s downright essential now!
